About Just Whips

“Every whip starts as a few strips of leather. The rest comes from patience, practice, and a lifetime in the bush.”
— Glen Ward

About Glen Ward

For Glen Ward, whip making isn’t just a trade—it’s been a lifelong passion.

Growing up on a dairy farm in Beaudesert, Queensland, Glen spent his childhood surrounded by cattle, horses and the hard-working country lifestyle that has shaped Australian stockmen for generations. From an early age, he was actively involved in running the family farm, developing a deep appreciation for quality equipment that could stand up to everyday use.

Glen’s journey as a whip maker began at just eight years of age when a neighbouring whip maker introduced him to the art of leather plaiting. Under his guidance, Glen crafted his very first stockwhips, sparking a passion that has continued for more than five decades.

By the age of 16, Glen had expanded his skills to crafting finely plaited leather belts, further refining the precision, patience and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of his work.

Over the years, Glen has also owned and operated a cattle property at Rathdowney, ensuring his whips were developed by someone who truly understood the demands of working livestock. Every whip is built with practical experience, balance, durability and performance in mind.

Today, Glen is recognised as one of Australia’s most accomplished whip makers. His dedication to traditional craftsmanship has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including:

  • Two-time Australian Champion Whip Maker
  • Multiple Red Hide Champion titles
  • Novice Roohide Champion
  • Multiple Toowoomba Show Champion awards

At Just Whips, every whip reflects Glen’s decades of experience, traditional craftsmanship and commitment to producing premium Australian-made whips that are built to perform and made to last. Whether destined for the stockyards, competition arena or collector’s display, each whip carries the heritage, skill and pride of a true master craftsman.
